Stricken by polio, she spent more than two years in iron lungs at the Children's Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma which had a tremendous impact on the physical quality of her life. A true warrior, she transmuted her chronic pain and suffering into becoming one of the most admired members of her family, being loved and respected by the many people who cherished her strong & kind character. She loved her family dearly and always put their needs before her own. The love & care she showed for her parents the last few years of their life was a direct reflection of her compassionate nature. She loved to color, create scrapbooks, and collect family heirlooms. Christmas was by far her favorite holiday. She enjoyed watching NCIS and Law and Order. She worked as a secretary for several years, sold Avon & Tupperware, and managed rental properties. She was preceded in death by her parents Homer V. Smith and Maggie Frances Wood, her dad Bailey "Hoot" Wood, her sister Donna and two infant sisters Phyllis Jean and Barbara Frances. Survivors include her children Steve Smith, Doreasa Hanson of Minnesota, Crystal Hanson and her fiance Brian Gustafson both of Minnesota; siblings Vic Smith of Yukon, Dennis Smith and wife Kyma of Piedmont and Nita Sue Decker of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and her special pets Nanabelle and Lucky.
