Lela Sue Cowan, 85, of Duncan, passed from this life on Monday, March 8, 2021, in the Elk Crossing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Duncan, Oklahoma. Services will be 2:00 PM Monday in the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Leonard Keele officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-6 on Sunday at the funeral home. She was born May 23, 1935 in Duncan, Oklahoma, and was the daughter of Jess and Jewell (George) Vantreese. She attended school at Woodlawn, a rural school, and then after moving into town around the age of 11, attended Duncan schools where met and later married David Dean Alexander on March 2, 1952. She and David moved to Norman, where she completed her Senior year of high school at Norman High School and David started college. While married to David for 23 years, she lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Iowa and South Korea. She and David had one daughter together, Dee Anne. She later married the love of her life, Loyd C. Cowan in Duncan, Oklahoma on April 9, 1977, and was fortunate to acquire two more daughters, Karen and Kathy. In earlier years, Sue worked in various clerical positions and later became a stay at home Mom and homemaker. She and Loyd enjoyed traveling and took a lot of trips, some of their favorite places being Colorado, Hawaii and New Zealand. Loyd preceded her in death, passing away August 11, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her both of her parents Jess and Jewell Vantreese, in 1988. Sue loved her family and was blessed with both grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she was so proud of. She was a kind and loving Mother and Grandmother and loved the Lord with all her heart. She attended Chisholm Trail Church of Christ for many years and later attended Heritage Oaks Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include daughters, Dee (Alexander) Lowry and husband, Tom, of Duncan, Karen (Cowan) Keese and husband, Gary, of Houston, TX and Kathy (Cowan) Garner and husband Steve, of Houston, TX, Seven Grandchildren and Nine Great-Grandchildren, Brandon Lowry, of Duncan (and his children, Caedon, Jadyn, Raleigh and Madisyn), Jason Lowry, of Duncan (and his children, Carson, Emery, Indie and Teagan), Colton Lowry, of Duncan, Katie (Keese) Clayton and husband, David, of Phoenix, AZ (and their daughter Charlotte), Kristi Keese, of Los Angeles, CA, Kellie Keese, of Los Angeles, CA, and Abby Garner, of Houston TX.
