Bailes-Polk Funeral Home 910 W. Oak Duncan, Ok 73533 (580) 255-5252 John Thomas Stewart, 84, of Duncan passed away Thursday, September 16th, 2010 at his home in Duncan. Services will be 11:00 AM Monday in The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS In Duncan with President Robert Petersen and Bishop Scott Ferrin officiating. Interment will be in the Cache Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. Stephens County Combined Honor Team will present the military honor and the Patriot Guard will escort. John was born March 13, 1926 at Lindsay, Oklahoma the son of Thomas Lee and Lulu Pearl Martin Stewart. He served in the United States Army during World War II from March 30, 1944 to December 22, 1946 receiving the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He and Sarah Hazel Phipps were married at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 17, 1970. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, Marlow Masonic Lodge, 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Marlow VFW. He enjoyed fishing, working in the yard and around the house. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Loretta Stewart and three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife Sarah Hazel Stewart of the home in Duncan; Children Thomas Roy Stewart of Duncan, Mamie Sue Archer of Marlow, Johnnie Lea Liptinsky of Duncan and Debbie Benton of Central; step children Donald Joe Burruss of Bristow, Dirl Dean Burruss of Elgin, Martha Faye Suggs of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Roger Dee Burruss of Lawton; a sister Faye Pendland of Loyal, Oklahoma and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
