Iris Lucille Whittington, 101, a former longtime Comanche resident passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 in the Hancock Hall Nursing Home in Danbury, Connecticut. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the Bailes- Polk Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Comanche under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. Lucille was born September 1, 1914 at Comanche, Oklahoma the daughter of W.A. and Bonnie Dora (Bowden) Pickett. She graduated from the Comanche High School in 1933. She and Hoyt Grant Whittington were married at Comanche, Oklahoma in 1935 and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1982. She was a homemaker who loved the time spent with her family. She worked for many years with the Stephens County Election Board and was a 30 year member of the Moran Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Blanche Valerio and Johnna May Dunn, son Perry Dale Whittington and daughter Peggy D. Ellis. Survivors include her daughters Pamela McDaniel of Bethel, Connecticut and Deann Pierce of Merritt Island, Florida; her sister Sue Shelby of Marlow, Oklahoma; grandchildren Perry Lynn Whittington, Cherry Bennett, James McDaniel, Daniel McDaniel, Grant Hoyt Brewer, Desiree Ann Pierce and Dominique "Niki" Pierce; eight great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
