Herman Kaspereit

Herman Kaspereit, 88 of Duncan passed peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024 in Norman, OK.


Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Duncan First Baptist church with Pastor Lynn Parkhurst officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.


Herman was born September 29, 1935 in Hulen, Oklahoma the son of Emil and Fronie (Wilkerson) Kaspereit. He was the third of five children, having an older brother, James Kaspereit; two older sisters Dorothy and Irene and a younger sister Joann. Herman was a second generation immigrant from Germany. Herman and his older brother, James cut their teeth on farm chores. Herman attended Empire School through grade eight and later got his GED at Cameron. In 1954, Herman met the love of his life, Donna Faye Merritt. They were married on September 18, 1954 in Duncan.


As a boy, Herman attended the Baptist Church located across the road in front of his house. He accepted the Lord Jesus at sixteen years of age and was baptized into the membership of the church. As a young boy he worked a paper route, set up bowling pins by hand at the bowling alley, worked on farm equipment and cars. In his teenage years, he hauled drilling mud, worked harvest and built houses in Montana, Texas and Oklahoma. He built his own home in 1956 in Duncan where he resided until 2022.


In 1960 he started his own business Kaspereit Auto Parts with his brother James.


Herman also served as a Duncan Police Officer and deputy sheriff for Stephens County. He worked weekends for Jay's Auction Service. After selling his business, he worked for the City of Duncan overseeing streets and equipment for 23 years, he later worked for OMI managing 40 miles of Duncan's wastewater system. After retiring, he started another business Kaspereit's Farm Equipment until 2022. Herman was an active member in Duncan Optimist Club for many years, serving as President in 1979-80. Herman was a kind and gentle man, very generous to those in need, he loved to visit and play dominoes. He never met a stranger. He was a long time member of Duncan First Baptist Church, he led singing for a number of years in the adult department where he and Donna attended.


The Lord blessed their marriage with two daughters, Sandra and Ginger, and a son, Dewayne.


He is survived by his daughters, Ginger Tinney and husband Mike Tinney of Norman their children Rachel Ackerman and Daniel Tinney, OK; Sandra Lumley Balm and husband Larry Balm of Pottsboro, Texas and children, Travis Lumley Balm, Lorrie French and Amanda Pethick, daughter in law Twyla Kaspereit, grandchildren Sarah Mavroudis and Chad Kaspereit, and great grand children.


He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Donna Kaspereit, son Dewayne Kaspereit , grandson, Jonathan Tinney, brother James, sisters Irene and Dorothy.
