Obituary
Gladys Marie Elam, was born in Memphis, Texas on April 9, 1923 to John Samuel and Ethel Nevada (Willley) Green. She passed away November 6, 2018 at the age of 95.
A loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Gladys was a true matriarch. She enjoyed sewing and quilting for her family. Albeit loving, she was also highly competitive at any domino or checker table.
She never passed a cotton field that didn’t make her back hurt! Because of her time spent baking at the University of Oklahoma Bake Shop in the mid-sixties, she was a dedicated Sooner Fan. She was a member of Missionary Baptist Church.
Gladys married Thomas Edwin Elam on September, 7th, 1940 in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Edwin Elam. She was also predeceased by her siblings Oran, Willie, Lester, JC, Ardell, and Loyd Green, and niece Sharon Gail. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Eddene McAlister and husband Chester, son David Elam and wife Jennifer, and sister, Wynona Eaton and husband Bill. She is also survived by her Grandchildren, Terry Clement and wife Alexis, Tammy Ross and husband Rex, Darrien, Jackson and Devin Elam, and Great Grandchildren, Thomas and Olivia Clement. Gladys is also survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
A memorial time and visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 at Bailes Polk Funeral Home in Duncan, Oklahoma. Gravesite Service and Internment will take place on Saturday, November 10th at the Noble I.O.O.F. Cemetery at 10:00 AM.
Serving as pallbearers are: Thomas David Clement, Jackson Bennett Elam, Chester McAlister, Rex Ross.
