Bailes-Polk Funeral Home 910 W. Oak Duncan, Oklahoma 73533 (580) 255-5252 Ethel Marie (Sneed) Rhodes, 93, lovingly known as "Grandma Ree", passed away Thursday, June 3rd, 2010, in the Rapid City Regional Hospital at Rapid City, S.D. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Eastside church of Christ with Brant Stubblefield officiating. Interment will be in the New Velma Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Ethel Marie was born May 9, 1917, at Lavada, Texas, to George Parnell and Maude Mavourneen (Lindsey) Sneed. She attended school at Wewoka, Oklahoma, and graduated from Duncan High School. She married James Carl "Swampy" Rhodes at Wewoka, Oklahoma, on January 31, 1936, and he preceded her in death on August 29, 2005. She worked building airplanes at Tinker Field during World War II. Her main purpose was to live a faithful and active Christian life. She was a member of the Midway church of Christ and loved spending time with her family. She was an avid "hacker" of golf and played with her husband, Swampy. They were charter members of the Wildhorse Golf Course in Velma. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and shopping for the absolute best bargains. Ethel Marie was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters. Survivors include daughters: Chris Taylor and June Armon Garland, Texas; Sally and Bob Littrell, Marlow, Oklahoma; Ann and Terry Neal, Longview, Texas; a son: James and Terrie Rhodes, Guyton, Georgia; and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan (Barnes) Rhodes, Mobile, Alabama; numerous grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Westview Boys Home, 120 West Broadway, Hollis, OK 73550.
