Arlene Sims passed away in her home on April 24, 2024 following a brief illness. Arlene and her twin sister were born to C.A. and Lucille Sims in Duncan, OK on August 21, 1940. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1958. After receiving her college degree, Arlene began her career as a schoolteacher and ultimately retired from Duncan Public Schools, spending the better part of her tenure teaching elementary school at Woodrow Wilson.
Arlene was a very independent person who enjoyed so many aspects of life. Whether caring for her horses in her younger years, tending cattle throughout her lifetime or making trips to many places across the Southwestern U.S., Arlene would find things that interested her and brought enjoyment all along the way. As tough and independent as she was, Arlene also had a very caring soul, and demonstrated that on many occasions as she would offer care to friends and loved ones whenever needed.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, C.A. and Lucille, her brother Robert Perry Sims (Bob), and her twin sister Darlene Henricks. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as several very close friends.
The family is planning to hold a small, informal memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stephens County Humane Society in honor of her lifelong love of animals. (stephenscountyshelter.com)
