Chester Leroy Mcalister

March 26, 1947 — January 31, 2020

Chester Leroy McAlister, 72, of Duncan won his battle with cancer when he went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2020. He was surrounded by his family and his dog Ladybug.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Ft. Sill National Veterans Cemetery at Elgin. Services are under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 5-7 on Tuesday.

Chester was born March 26, 1947 at Lawton, Oklahoma the son of Robert “Bob” and Bernice (Norton) McAlister and as a young child his family moved to California. At 23 he joined the United States Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. He attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, was a drill instructor and distinguished marksman setting records and winning numerous medals for his shooting abilities. While in the Marines he was stationed in Okinawa. After nine years in the military he went to work for the Federal Department of Justice where he was a guard for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

He loved to play golf. Once when he made an incredible shot, he was asked how he did it and he replied, “Living right and loving the Lord”.

He and Linda Eddene Clement were married on February 14, 1996 in Lawton, Oklahoma. His family is of the Missionary Baptist Faith. Even though he suffered thru chemo and radiation along with the pain of the cancer he never doubted his faith in the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Gladys and Ed Elam, his sisters Connie and Neecie as well as several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years Eddene of the home; son Terry Clement and wife Alexis of Mustang, Oklahoma; daughter Tammy Ross and husband Rex of Duncan, Oklahoma; grandchildren Thomas and Olivia Clement both of Mustang, Oklahoma and brother Charles Wingo of Sacramento, California; brother-in-law David Elam and wife Jennifer of Duncan, Oklahoma as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends who loved him.

Chester will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
