Charles Edward Woodring

During this year of 2020 we have seen many thing that give pause. A virus that has caused the shut down of multiple countries, call for defunding police and a renewed violent call for racial equality and we saw the loss of a great man Charles Edward Woodring who at the age 87 passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 in the Integris Southwest Medical Center.


1933 was the worst year for the American Deppression. The average wage per year was $1550.00, a gallon of gas cost 10 cent, a loaf of bread cost 7 cents and a pound of hamburger meat cost 11 cents. In this year production started on the Golden Gate Bridge and due to mechanized farming the dust storms of the Dust Bowl began this year and in the town of Calexico, California Charles Edward Woodring was born on January 14 the son of Ewing A. and Juanita (Darling) Woodring. In 1971 the average yearly wage was 11,800.00, a gallon of gas cost 55 cents and a new Ford Pinto would set you back 2,080.00. and in Houston, Texas Charles and Addie Syble Hunt of were married and she preceded him in death April 30, 2019. He owed and operated hardware stores in Houston Texas and worked as a produce buyer. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family who he loved unconditionally. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his daughters Rene Woodring of Gonzales, Louisiana and Kristi Woodring of Houston, Texas; step daughter Leslie K. Burch of Little Rock, Arkansas and granddaughter Jessica Turnao and husband Nick of Houston, Texas.
