Chief Warrant Officer Billie Cecil Wood, Sr., 85, of Duncan passed away Sunday, July 9th, 2017 at his residence in Duncan.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday in the Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church with Jerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.
Military Honors will be conferred by the Stephens County Honor Guard and service will be escort by members of the Patriot Guard.
Billie was born December 8, 1931 to John Cecil and Irene Louise (Thomas) Wood in Duncan, Oklahoma. Since his father worked for Halliburton he grew up all over the United States attending many different schools. He joined the United States Army in June 1952 and traveled all over the world before retiring August 31, 1977 while assigned to the Headquarters 82nd Air Born Division at Fort Bragg, NC.
He served in Korea, Vietnam and Germany as well as many different posts here in the United States. He was awarded many military metals, to include the Soldiers Medal for Gallantry, Bronze Star with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal and many other awards.
Billie met and married Betty Jean Caudell while stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1963 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2003. He and Bessie Lynn Smith were married at Duncan, Oklahoma on November 29, 2009. He was a life member of the AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans, National Riffle Association and the VFW. He has served his fellow Veterans as Post Commander of AMVETS Post #11, State Commander of the Oklahoma AMETS, National District V Commander for AMVETS, Chairman of the Veteran Council for the Department of Veterans Affairs of the State of Oklahoma sa well as Veterans Service officer for AMVETS. He will be most remembered as the man who ran BINGO for the AMVETS in Duncan and a member of the Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church.
Survivors include his wife Bessie of the home in Duncan; sons Billie C. Wood, Jr. of Lawton; Andy Wood and his wife cheryl of Duncan; Mary Helen Farris of Lawton; stepson Jerry Smith and his wife Veda of Midland, Texas five grandchildren; Numerous great and great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Craig, J. R. Kraus, Jack Miller Jeff Rather, Lonnie Foster, Pastor Gary Davis.
