Burnes was born August 3rd, 1930 at Sweetwater, Texas and departed this life April 13th, 2010 in the Comanche County Memorial Hospital at Lawton at the age of 79 years Betty was born the daughter of William Sherman and Maybell Goalden Hornbeck. She and T.J. Burnes were married December 15, 1958 at Gainesville, Texas and he preceded her in death June 12, 2004. She came to this area in 1987 from Post Texas. Betty was proud to have been instrumental in starting and was the director of the "Door Of Opportunity" an organisation which assisted the handicap in Artesia, New Mexico and was a member Altrusa. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist Faith, loved to cook for her entire family, enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters and a grandson. Survivors include four sons Jimmy Hill of Hastings, Oklahoma, Terry Hill of Artesia, New Mexico, Rick Hill of Hastings, Oklahoma, Tommy Burnes of Rush Springs, Oklahoma and Taylor Burnes of Hastings, Oklahoma; two daughters Charlotte Harendt of Abilene, Texas and Shirley Wilson of Post, Texas; a brother Bill Hornbeck of Walters, Oklahoma; a sister Irene Sanner of Maysville, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
