T.W. Stevenson

T.W. Stevenson, 91, of Duncan, Oklahoma passed from this life Sunday, April 9, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.


Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Willie Irvin of the Saint Stephens Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Henderson Harris Cemetery in Duncan, Oklahoma.


T.W. was born in Garvin County, Oklahoma, February 17, 1932 to Emily Stevenson and Vanoy K. Green. He was later adopted by Reverend Jackson Stevenson and Mary (Colbert) Stevenson. He graduated from the Wynnewood High School in Wynnewood, Oklahoma in 1951. He and Nellie Buckner were married at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on August 7, 1954 and to this union four daughter were born. His wife Nellie preceded him in death on July 12, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his birth parents, grandparents, eleven siblings and an infant daughter. He worked various jobs until becoming the maintenance supervisor for the Security National Bank now Banc First where he worked for over 38 years before his retirement. He served on the Board of Directors of the Douglass Eastside Senior Citizens Center for over 25 years, serving in numerous capacities including President. He was the first African American Member of the Duncan Noon Lions Club and was a faithful member of the Saint Stephens Baptist Missionary Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and other capacities. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, watching television especially sports, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Leaving to mourn his passing are his daughters Carlos Stevenson Ivory of Duncan, Oklahoma, Rhonda Stevenson of Edmond, Oklahoma and Sheila Stevenson of Duncan, Oklahoma; grandchildren Chanell Ivory, Derrick Ivory, Lavender Stevenson, Joshua Stevenson, Eliza Stevenson; great grandchildren Savaughn Cooper, Angel Behn, Savian Cooper, Selah Ivory, Cayson Tell, Jess Ivory, Hollyn Stevenson and Willa Stevenson, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
