Jerry Don Woods (Obituary)

Jerry Don Woods (JD) of Duncan, OK, passed away on December 23, 2022 at his residence at the age of 85.

He was born on March 25, 1937 to Wiley Wilburn Woods (Bud) and Cora Bell Tarter-Woods.

JD met his wife Alice Pauline Shelton at the young age of 19 and they married at age 20 on November 15, 1957. Their marriage lasting 44 years until Pauline, also known as "Midge" passed away after a long illness at just 64.

Having four children (Raymond Woods, Randall Woods, Miava Woods-Sullivan, and DJ Woods, three grandchildren (Markes Shaw, Mikah Sullivan, & Mackenzie Sullivan), and two great granddaughters (Hazel Dykes & Sequoia Stockham).

JD worked during his very young age at the Strain's Bakery in Duncan, then moved into the oil drilling industry. That led him and his family out to Southern California to raise their family, and a long career working for various oil and gas production companies. They retired out to Prescott, Arizona for several years until the passing of his wife (Pauline). He then decided to move back home to Duncan around 2001.

JD was known for being one of the hardest working men. He was still working on oil leases just until a couple years back. Everyone is going to miss listening to him tell so many stories of the old days. He could remember all the names, places and dates. Everyone was so astonished by his memory, and will truly miss all those stories. He touched the lives of so many people. He was such a kind, polite, but stubborn man. He will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.

A graveside memorial service at the Duncan Municipal Cemetery is being planning on his birthday, March 25, 2023 where he will be laid to rest with his wife. All family and friends are welcome.
