James Elmer Gardenhire, 88, of Duncan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his home in Duncan. Services will be 1:00 PM in the Velma Assembly God Church with Reverend Travis Stewart and Reverend Ray Ledbetter officiating. Interment will be in the Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for visitation at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday. James was born at Gotebo, Oklahoma the son of Jessie James and Ola Mae Kendrick Gardenhire. He and Lola Cambron were married at Wichita Falls, Texas on September 6, 1946. James took over and maintained his family farm while his brothers fought in the war. He worked for over 20 years as foreman with the Cotten Construction Company building a host of homes and businesses in Duncan. He was a member of the Velma Assembly of God Church and loved riding the tractor, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a loving and caring person who always had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brother John and Robert and a sister Ruby. Survivors include his wife Lola of the home in Duncan; son Randall Gardenhire, of Duncan; a daughter Lynda Stewart of Duncan; grandchildren Lisa Lokey, Mark Gardenhire, Travis Stewart and Jeremy Stewart; brothers Roy and Hobart and 6 great grandchildren.
