Hugh Renier O'Connor

July 13th, 1917-June 17th, 2015 Hugh Renier O"Connor, 97, of Duncan, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Meridian Nursing Center in Meridian, OK. Hugh was born July 13th, 1917, in El Reno, OK to Helena Mae (Winder) and Michael Hugh O"Connor. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in Los Angeles, CA. He married Mary Lee Thierry in El Reno, OK on August 5th, 1938. Mary Lee preceded him in death on September 3rd, 2005. Hugh retired in 1979 from Halliburton Energy Services after 40 years of service. He loved airplanes, air shows, and collecting coins. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and softball, and loved auto racing. He also taught junior lifesaving skills in Duncan, OK for years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Duncan and Comanche. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, wife, Mary Lee O"Connor, and his son, Michael George O"Connor. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Newman, of Duncan, OK, and daughter-in-law Mary O"Connor of Duncan, OK; five grandchildren: Jerry Don Newman and his wife Judy of Duncan, OK, Heather Hall and her husband Jeffrey of Waurika, OK, Jack O"Connor and his wife Janna of Edmond, OK, Lisa Frye of Duncan, OK, and Reverend Brant O"Connor and his wife Dea of Andrews, TX; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be at Bailes-Polk Funeral Home in Duncan, OK on Friday, June 19th, 2015 from 6pm to 7pm. Graveside services will be Saturday, June 20th, 2015 at 11:30am at El Reno Cemetery in El Reno, OK, with the Reverend Brant O"Connor officiating.
