Dorthy Faye Cox, 92, a former longtime resident of Duncan, OK entered into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, May 21, 2024, in the Centra Lynchburg Medical Center, Lynchburg, VA.
Dorthy was born Dec. 11, 1931 in Comanche, OK. The oldest daughter of James Jerome Richardson and Ester Elvie (Myers) Richardson. She married Marvin K Cox Sr. in Waurika, OK on Feb. 1st, 1947. They were happily married for 54 years before his passing on April 13, 2001. Also preceding her in death, her only son Marvin K Cox Jr. , son in law Neil Douthit, Grandsons Shawn Cox and Michael Barnes, Great Grandchildren Dillon Barnes and Debra Phillips. Brothers James and J.B. Richardson, sisters Edith Richardson and AnneMae Kaspereit.
Dorthy was a homemaker and caregiver. Working for Hagar Slacks and then in 1981 returning to school where she obtained her LPN license. She loved being an LPN and caring for the elderly. Dorthy retired in 2000 to care full time for her ailing husband. Dorthy and Marvin had 5 children one was lost in miscarriage. Dorthy was very talented and creative working with her hands cooking, crocheting, sewing, constructing, and wood carving without patterns or instructions. She loved putting puzzles together and word search puzzles, and traveling. She was an avid reader and letter writer. She kept detailed journals of her everyday life. In her senior years she stepped out of her comfort zone and began teaching adult ladies Sunday School class at Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a long time member. The most important and joyful activity for Dorthy was spending time with her family. Dorthy was the sweetest, slow to anger, forgiving and most loving and caring peaceful person one could know. Dorthy moved to Forest, VA Sept, 2020 to live with her youngest daughter and her family. She enjoyed the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the very tall trees, and drives to the Peaks of Otter where she said, " being on the top of the mountain made her feel as though she could reach out and touch the stars". Trips to Washington DC, Topsail Island Beach and many historical places added to her enjoyment of living in Forest, VA. She made numerous trips back to Oklahoma during her almost 4 years living in Virginia and loved each trip to see friends and family she missed dearly.
